Long ago a very famous salmon lived in the river Boyne. It was a huge golden fish called the salmon of knowledge. It was said that the salmon’s flesh was very special, who ever was the first to eat the flesh would be given the gift of wisdom.
There was an old man who longed to catch the salmon. One day a boy called Fionn went down to the river, the old man, Finegas, was there. As luck would have it, Finnegas managed to catch the fish while Fionn was watching him! Finnegas couldn’t believe his luck and immediately began to cook the fish. The old man told the boy not to eat the fish while he went for some fruit. However, Fionn hadn’t eaten for two days and he was feeling very hungry. So he took a tiny piece of the salmon. As soon as had eaten it, a while cloud rose from the fish and he saw himself as a mighty warrior leaders a great army. He saw his army of warriors marching all over Ireland. They fought many battles and won them all.
When Finegas returned he saw a strange look on Fionn’s face. Fionn confessed to the old man about eating the fish. The old man was very sad . When Fionn got older he was invited to a feast with all he other fighters . The King look all over the room .He asked who could kill the goblin of Tara and no one stood up but Fionn . Fionn had to prepare for a fight against the goblin . He defeated the goblin and became the new leader for the Fianna. The Fianna was the greatest army ever in those times.
