Deirdre And The Vikings

In the years
after the death of St. Patrick many Irish people became Christians. Some holy
men, called monks, built monasteries in many parts of Ireland. St. Ciarán and
his monks built a monastery at Clonmacnoise. Deirdre and her family lived in
a little village beside a monastery. Deirdre and her younger brother Colm went
down to the river to have a bath. Colm let out a scream and shouted look at
those huge ships there coming this way. They jumped out of the river and they
both ran. In the first she could see fierce warriors, armed with swords and
axes. Deirdre and her brother knew lots about the Vikings because their grandparents
had told them lots about them. When they reached the town Deirdre cried out;
“Vikings! Vikings! As Deirdre and her brother ran for their lives they could
see their family running to the tower. So The Viking could not get to them in
the tower. All the houses were destroyed and people were killed and slaughtered
along with animals. After a long time when everyone was dieing of starvation
and the Vikings had no food and left they had to leave Ireland to go Sweden
and Norway to get food.
