We did reports on animals and are sending you our book on the wolverine, dog, tiger, and platypus. Mrs. Paplawsky let us look up information on the Internet and skip part of reading to write our report. She said we had to do our very best and correct mistakes, because children in the learning circle were going to read our reports. We really like our book. WOLVERINE The wolverine looks like a skunk weasel to me. It is a mammal. It lives in the northern United States, Canada, Alaska, Siberia, and northern Europe. The wolverine likes to eat whatever they can find and they kill rabbits, deer, and caribou. It is small when it is born and can be 18-42 pounds when it is an adult. The wolverine is called a devil and can protect itself with sharp claws and teeth. The most interesting facts about the wolverine to me are it is called the "Devil of the North"; it is a part of the weasel family; and it's Michigan's State animal.

DOG My animal has ears, a small tail, wet nose, and 4 legs. He is a dog, a mammal and member of the canine family. Dogs can live in a house or in the prairies like a dingo. Dogs that are pets in houses eat puppy chow or dog food. They like to eat treats and people food, too. Dogs are so many different sizes. It could fit in the palm of your hand or it could get up to 5 feet tall. Dogs bark as a warning and will bite to protect itself. I think it is funny to watch a dog chase its tail. Do you have a dog? I think it is interesting that there are over 50 breeds of dogs. Also, I think it is fun when you run, a dog will chase you. And that is my report on dogs.

TIGERS A tiger is a big mammal with black and orange stripes. It lives in the jungles and canebrakes. The tiger eats deer and other mammals. The tiger has a territory of 65-647 square kilometers where he likes to hunt. He marks his territory with urine and with fluids from glands at the base of his tail. The scent lets other tigers know that the territory is occupied. The life of an adult tiger is alone. But they are not unfriendly. Two tigers may meet on their nightly rounds, rub heads together in greeting, and then leave. Several tigers may share a kill. Tigers weigh about 420 pounds and defends itself with claws and teeth.

DUCKBILLED PLATYPUS The duckbilled platypus is covered in fur with webbed feet. It has a blue/gray bill. The platypus is a mammal in the family marsupial. It lives in fresh water, lakes and streams. The platypus eats larvae, shrimps, yabbies, tadpoles, small frogs, and fish. It is the size of an older woman's palm when it is born. It grows to the size of a household kitty cat when it is an adult. It can live to be 17 years old. When the platypus feels danger, it dives under the water to escape. It closes its ears, eyes, and noses. I choose this mammal because it is so unusual. They lay eggs, and when they hatch, they provide milk for their young. They are a mammal that lays eggs. Can you believe that?
