Dolphins in Belmullet

Some dolphins strayed into the docks in Belmullet on the 26th. August 1999. There were five dolphins in the group, but it's difficult to be sure. There were some attempts to "rescue" the dolphins, but they were reluctant to be rescued. Many people swam with them but the dolphins may not have liked this. They were truly magnificent.

The dolphins then made strenuous attempts to swim southwards (see below) towards Blacksod Bay, and out of the canal in Belmullet on Thursday 9th. September 1999.

By Saturday, 11th. September, only two dolphins were left in the dock in Belmullet.

On Sunday 12th September at 8.15 pm, our dolphin friends left. We hope that they will return soon again.
