Ballyglass Lighthouse
The Broadhaven Lighthouse which is now known as the Ballyglass Lighthouse was first switched on in 1855. Twenty years beforehanbd the Eagle Island lighthouse nearby had been lit. It had been planned since 1843 because the Coast Guard had complained about the dangers to shipping. This was due to the rocks in Broadhaven Bay. The light is unusual from the Ballyglass Lighthouse because it shows white to seaward and red on the west side. In the beginning the tower was left in its natural colour-grey stone but in 1931 the lighthouse was painted white and the candle power increased.
It is now an automatic lighthouse.
