The naming ceremony and blessing of the Lifeboat R.N.L.I. "Bryan and Gordon " took place at Ballyglass pier on Saturday the fifth of September 1998 . My father went across in the currach (a traditional small boat). He brought us, our grandfather and our neighbour Peadar. The chairman Buddy Valkenburg welcomed everybody who came for the ceremony. The British Ambassador named the new Lifeboat "Bryan and Gordon ". The Lifeboat prayer was said by everybody. The choir sang nicely. The name of one of the hymns was called "Ag Críost an Síol". All the VIPs were brought out by the crew in the Lifeboat and back to the Lifeboat station.
