Gaelic Football G.A.A.

The Gaelic Athletic Association or the GAA started on the 1st November 1884, a small group of men met in the billiard-room of Miss Hayes’s Commercial Hotel in Co. Tipperary. Ever since then Gaelic has been played by men and more recently by women also. There are fifteen on a Gaelic football team and it is played with a round ball. The name of the national trophy is the Sam Mc Guire. G.A.A stands for Gaelic Athletic Association and it promotes the playing of both Gaelic football and hurling.
Hurling is a game where you use a hurley and a sliothar. A hurley is a litle like a hockey stick and a slitothar means a small hurling ball. A hurling ball is made with hard leather ball sowed in the middle it is always safe to put your hurling helmet on in case you get hit on the head. We have a hurling teacher. His name is Kevin Kelly. We don’t play hurling a lot around here.
In Gaelic football, our county Mayo have won the Connaught title two or three years in a row but failed to win the Sam Mc Guire. Mayo may not be the best at Gaelic Football, but both my brother and sister played for Mayo I hope to play for Mayo too.

Two years ago Inver National School did well at the schools' Gaelic football competition (Cumann na mBunscol). They took on Bangor in the Erris final and won by won by seven points to show they were Erris champs. Then they took Kilmeena and bet them by a clear fourteen points.

A few days later Inver took a trip to Bangor to play Bonniconlan. Bonniconlan lead the first half by a narrow two points Inver were sure they were out two points from Joseph Connell and one goal by Richard Markwick just about got Inver into the County finals. They then took on Boohola in Ballina Stephenites pitch at the end of the first half Inver lead the way by a point. At that time Bohola weren't going to give up. They came back and were in the lead by three points. With two minutes remaining Joseph Connell powered a point over the bar but in the end it wasn’t good enough.

Bohola had won by two points.

Inver said that they will be back to get revenge and they will regain the County Finals. 1.Michael Doherty 2.William Doherty 3.Michael Doocey 4.Jonathan Ginnelly 5.Joseph Connell 6.Sean Noone 7.Richard Markwick 8.Marty Healy 18.John-Gerrard Carferkey subs:John Doocey Jimmy Sheeran James Keenaghan Aidan Doherty and Vincent Cuffe.
